A rash guard is not made to keep water off of you. It’s main purpose is becoming a shield from the friction of ur surfboard/life jacket to prevent irritation, and wouldn’t u know it…RASH!! But is some cases if the water is warmer then the air, the rash guard might protect u a little bit from wind chill, but most importantly, on a hot day, sunburn!! Hope I helped a little bit.

NO. It is not designed to keep water off your body, it is designed to protect your skin from the friction that develops when you a paddling on a waxed surfboard.
You loose body heat much, much faster in water than in air. A wet rash guard will make you not only feel colder, but loose heat faster than your bare skin, which air dries rather quickly.
I have been surfing since 1966, long before rash guards were invented. Wet clothes increase heat loss. If you are too cold, get yourself a wetsuit top ior vest.
