I wear one at the YMCA pool, indoors. It really does keep you warmer. I'm not fast enough to worry about it slowing me down. I'm female and I don't like to be scantilly clad, so I wear it for modesty.

Our swimming teachers wear them for a bit of extra warmth, because they're standing around a lot in the water. I wear one when practising freediving in a pool (which has necessary periods of inactivity) and it does work. But for women who get really cold, there are swimsuits made of a thin wetsuit material that apparently are very effective.

well if its a highend 1 made for swimming, it's give you more hydrodynamics in the water

They can give you a little extra warmth in the pool, probably slow you down, afford you some extra modesty, cost you more money I guess. I can't think of a good reason.
