What do you wear under a wet suit in the winter/early spring?

I'm starting sailing soon and will be going out with a wet suit under my spray gear. What do you suggest I wear when I go out? Is it better to have a few layers under my wet suit or more layers on top of it?
The wet suit is designed to be worn next to the skin so that your body warms the water in the first layer... I'm sure your sailing instructor will select the right thickness of suit for the conditions. All you should need are swimming trunks and, most deffinately, your own warm towel and warm clothes for after, enjoy
